Trials  by Flinders University show how quickly bacterial pathogens die off

2 types of bacteria, E. coli and Salmonella were seeded into the BiobiN and survival monitored. The following tests were conducted:

  • In sealed containers- exposed just to heat
  • In open containers- exposed to heat and ammonia
  • Inside chicken carcasses- simulate real conditions
Producing the perfect conditions
Kills off E.coli & Salmonella typhimurium

Typical temperatures in working vessel vary between 35 and 55°C. With an added heating element, the system can work at 65 °C +. This causes very high ammonia levels develop. This combination of heat and ammonia are very effective at killing pathogens and fly larvae. Examples of these bacterial pathogens are:

  • E.coli
  • Salmonella typhimurium
  • Also effective against viruses
Safe and environmentally friendly

E. coli is killed off quickly by high temperatures and ammonia where the Salmonella survives longer at high temperatures (50 degrees C) but is killed off rapidly by ammonia. The tests done with BiobiN™ showed that it is very effective at killing bacterial pathogens
